News From The Course

Course Update - Greens & Tee Boxes (Posted mid Sept)

Presently the greens are undergoing different types of maintenance:

*     The 1st, 4th, 15th & 16th Greens have been spiked, treated with a course of nutrients (feed) and top dressed. This type of work was carried out to these 4 greens, as they tend to suffer from disease and wear and tear the most.
*     The remaining greens have been sprayed to boost the colour of the greens but also to prevent disease creeping in over the next couple of weeks/months.
*     The tee boxes have been treated with fertiliser to generate growth to the grass thus ensuring an excellent cover for the months ahead.

9th Tee Update

The 9th tee is well underway its recovery to being back in full play. The new sod was recently layed on the newly constructed 9th tee box. All that is required over the next 5-6 weeks is for a few courses of sand to be applied to the surface as well as some growth to tie everything together.

The new tee area should test golfers during their round and depending on where the tee markers are located will give a new dimension to playing the 9th.

Revised Dates - Annual Course Maintenance (Posted Early Spet)

The dates for the annual course maintenance have been moved from September to the 9th, 10th & 11th of October.

The dates have been changed in order to maximize the usage of the remainder of the peak season and to also avail of the settled weather that September normally provides.

The type of work taking place in October will not be as severe as previous years, which should result in a quicker recovery (weather dependant)

Greens Update (30th July)

With the very warm, moist/wet weather we are currently experiencing, the greens at present can be prone to disease. The plan over the next number of weeks will be to apply a preventitive spraying programme, the first will happen straight away and then again around the 7th/8th August.

It is essential that we take these measures to ensure that the disease does not take hold. During any spraying, signage will be placed at the first tee, please be mindful during any spraying programme.

Bunker Update (20th July)

Michael (Head Green Keeper) has recently sourced a part for the second bunker rake that will assist in breaking aprt compacted sand after washouts. This part has been in action over the last few weeks and already proving to be very helpful during these very unsettled weather conditons.

  • The Annual Course Maintenance which occured between the 5th - 9th March saw essential works carried out to the course.  The huge investment by our owners FBD, will ensure that the course continues to go from strength to strength.
We would ask all members and visitors playing the course during the recovery period to please be patient, as it will be a number of weeks (weather dependant) before the course recovers and returns to normal playing conditions.

Should you have any further questions on the type of work occuring during these dates please speak to a member of the golf team on 051 380587.
